Biography
Ellie Desgranges is a French, self-taught emerging artist living in Christopher Lake, Saskatchewan, who combines photography + text. Her "Anthrop O Naturel" exhibit, created in 2021, has since been displayed at several art events and in commercial and public galleries across the province. The work prompts us to re-evaluate our preconceived notions surrounding plants and animals, which are presented as individuals with emotions and language – close neighbors of another culture. Ellie's interests now lie in exploring how psychology, ethics, and social justice apply to the natural sciences. She questions whether plants have physical, mental, and spiritual health in "Blooming Personality XV: Nauseated Teenager". The first of its kind, it was created with geographic information system (GIS) and remote sensing techniques drawn from the scientific literature in a digital photography post-production workflow. The textual narratives are drafted organically throughout the creative process and are combined with the images in the last stage. Ellie continues to refine this approach, striving to incorporate ink, weaving and other types of materials in her work.
